This is a collage of some of the symbols throughout the book so far. The suitcase is a symbol of Mariam’s old life, and not wanting it to change. The wall represents Jalil’s walls which are keeping Mariam, his daughter out of. The garden represents another life that Mariam wants to be part of. The window is a symbol of revealing truth. The burqua the one in which Rasheed gives to Mariam shows property, and mistreatment of women. The school is a symbol of education of women and modernization. The house represents Rasheed’s which is a symbol of Mariam’s new life, and of despair.
